Kenya

Kenya is perhaps the most diverse holiday destination in Africa.

The word ‘safari’ means 'a journey' in Swahili, and Kenya is the original safari destination.  From the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya to the Masai Mara and the beautiful Indian Ocean coast, Kenya has everything for families.

Ideas for a family adventure in East Africa

Kenya's nature has captured our imagination for centuries.

We dream of its vast plains, teeming with lion, zebra and giraffe and over a million wildebeest migrating across crocodile infested waters.  And magically floating in a hot air balloon over the Masai Mara at sunrise.

We like to get off the beaten track and our favourite experiences include walking safaris with Samburu warrior guides across the malaria-free Laikipia plateau, remote lodges in the wilds of northern Kenya and community wildlife conservancies which allow you to experience the best of the Masai Mara. We always recommend finishing your safari relaxing on the shores of the Indian ocean, with its white sand beaches and fascinating Swahili cultures.

Walking safaris with warrior guides across the Laikipia Plateau.

Journeying through the foothills of Mount Kenya with experienced Samburu and Laikipiak Masai guides. All of your gear is carried by camels and you travel on foot between stunning camps, enjoying wonderful meals under the stars.  A brilliant experience for kids, young and old, allowing you to get up close and personal with wild nature.

Remote wilderness lodges in magical northern Kenya

Northern Kenya, also known as the ‘northern frontier district’, is one of the great wild places of Africa.  A great combination with a walking safari, the north boasts fascinating tribal cultures and incredible landscapes with some of the finest wilderness camps and lodges on the continent.  Enjoy wildlife drives, bush dinners and swimming in mountain waterfalls!

Getting off the beaten track in the Masai Mara

The Serengeti-Mara ecosystem is home to one of the world’s greatest wildlife experiences when millions of wildebeest and zebra migrate. But ‘the Mara’ is incredible at any time of year.  We are proud to work with a new generation of community-owned wildlife conservancies which enable our families to experience the best of the Mara and make a lasting contribution to its wildlife and local people.
